Ohio County sits along the Ohio River in the middle of the state's spike separating the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania. Home to Wheeling, the county voted for Trump by 26.5 points. Democrats were able to win a handful of precincts in and around Wheeling, but the surrounding communities and rural areas keep Ohio County pretty red
Tucker County is the only county in the state to have shifted leftwards in 2024. This being said, Trump still carried it by almost 50 points. Dems are gaining ground due to the ski resorts and outdoorsy activities present in the area, which prompts many remote workers to move to the area from larger cities
SD 5 was a seat that Dems lost in 2024, and is currently one of the two that they hold (multimember districts). Trump carried it by 25 points, doing best in the rurals and red suburbs around Huntington. The region has been a hub of downballot Democratic strength for years, but this strength is failing as the population of the area shrinks, and rural and white voters shift more Republican
SD 13 is the state's most Democratic Senate district by base partisanship. This being said, Trump won the seat by just shy of 6 points. The district combines Monongalia and Marion counties, and is home to the major cities of Morgantown (home to WVU) and Fairmont. Harris did best in these cities, but the connecting rurals and surrounding small towns keep the seat red. This is one of the two seats that Democrats hold in the chamber
