Alleghany County is home to Maryland's narrowest point, where a bike ride between WV, MD, and PA is possible. Trump won the county by 41 points, with Harris's main bases of support being in Frostburg (home to Frostburg State University) and Cumberland (which used to be one of the state's largest cities). The county also used to be much more Democratic-leaning, at one point being home to the Democratic Speaker of the State House
Anne Arundel County is home to the state capital of Annapolis, and suburbs of both Washington DC and Baltimore alike. While the county has had a fairly conservative past, Harris was able to win it by 14 points. Her strength came from the Annapolis and Odenton areas, whereas Trump's came from Pasadena and the rural southern portion of the county. The county's east is notable because of the varying politics of the peninsulas, ranging from progressive Annapolis, maintream/moderate Democratic Arnold, and very conservative Pasadena
Baltimore County surrounds the city of Baltimore (which functions as its own county), and is one of the state's larger counties. Harris won it by 25 points, combining strength with minorities in the county's east with urban whites, like around Cockeysville. Trump did best in the outer rurals,Dundalk (a Rust-Belt-esque town on the Chesapeake Bay), and amongst suburbanites bordering Anne Arundel County
Talbot County is the newest federally competitive county on the state's Eastern Shore. After Biden flipped it in 2020, Trump came back in 2024 to win it by a narrow 6-vote-margin. The county is home to comparatively better educated residents than most of the Eastern Shore, and has a somewhat larger minority population than other counties in the area, making it ripe for electoral competitionÂ
