Orleans County flipped to Trump in 2024 after Presidentially favoring Democrats for years. He carried the county by about a point and a half, doing best in the turf along the Canadian border surrounding the city of Newport. Harris did best in the county's southern half, with the region visually appearing to be more like the rest of New England at large
Rutland County is the most Republican county in southern Vermont. Still, Harris won it by about 5.5 points. The eastern portion of the county is the most Democratic (including the seat of Rutland), and the west the most Republican. I would expect Democrats to start losing the county in years to come, given their recent drops in vote share here
One of the most Democratic Senate districts in the state that has a Republican Senator is Lamoille's Senate district. While not wholly coterminous with Lamoille County, this seat went for Harris by over 30 points, with Trump only carrying the town of Eden in the district's north. This is a prime flip opportunity for state Democrats in 2026
