Hughes County is home to the state's capital of Pierre, and a portion of the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation. Trump won the county in 2024 by about 41 points, doing well in the county's rurals and Pierre. Harris only won the Reservation portion of the county, but managed to hold some of the Pierre precincts to close margins
Minnehaha County is home to Sioux Falls, and is the largest in the state. Trump carried the county by 13 points, winning the outer rural areas and Brandon, a major suburb/exurb. Harris did best in the Sioux Falls proper, which is where Democrats still hold legislative seats presently
Pennington County is home to the state's second largest city, Rapid City. Trump won the county by 27 points, with Harris only carrying a few precincts in the core of Rapid City. However, South Dakota Democrats did manage their one State House seat flip of 2024 in a Rapid City-based district, even as they lost a handful of seats across both legislative chambers
Roberts County sits on the border of Minnesota and North Dakota, and is oddly to the left of the state as a whole. This being said, Trump won it by about 23.5 points in 2024. Harris's main strength was among the Native communities around Agency Village, which along with Sisseton, is the only are that she carried outright
SD 26 was drawn to be a Native American opportunity seat in the south-central part of the state. However, since the inception of the Trump era, Republicans have made steady gains in the area, with Trump winning the district by 12.5 points in 2024. Harris's best areas were Native American-majority communities. Republicans flipped the seat at the State Senate level as Trump carried it
