This comes as Trump carried the district by 8.6 points in 2024, with the only reliably blue county being Johnson (home to Iowa City), though Scott (home to Davenport) and Clinton (home to Clinton) have gone blue in previous races
Dallas County is home to many of Des Moines's suburban communities, and has become a must win for statewide and IA-01 candidates. Trump carried the county by about 5 points by doing well in the rurals and outer suburbs/exurbs, while Harris won West Des Moines, Perry, and Clive
SD one is wholly within Woodbury County, containing most of Sioux City. Trump won the seat by 11.5 points in 2024, only losing portions of the Sioux City proper outright. The seat is set to see a competitive special election soon, as the incumbent (who had presviously won the seat from a Democrat) passed away
