Plaquemines Parish stretches from the New Orleans area in the north to the terminus of the Mississippi River in the south, well into the Gulf of Mexico. Trump carried the parish by 38.5 points in 2024, but Harris was able to well in a number of African American-populated precincts, including those around Port Sulphur. The vast majority of the parish's residents live around the community of Belle Chasse in the north of the district, which is within a reasonable commuting distance from the city
West Baton Rouge Parish sits across the river from East Baton Rouge Parish, which actually holds the state capital. West Baton Rouge's largest city is port Allen, which serves as a suburb of the state capital. Trump won the county by about 12 points in 2024, losing areas along the river and/or with high Black populations to Harris. The last Presidential Democrat to carry the parish was Al Gore in 2000, but the margins here have remained relatively stable compared to other parishes where Democrats have lost major groundÂ
